Entomology Collections

A small insect and arthropod collection was started some years ago, drawing mostly from student class collections. At present, the collection is being overhauled to accomodate a collection of insects and arthropods from the Franklin Mountains made as part of a project funded by Texas Parks and Wildlife. Supplemental collections from the region also have been made and are being included. Authorities for particular taxonomic groups are being consulted for assistance with identifications. It is estimated that about 1,000 local insect species will be identified to species and incorporated into the collection when this phase of curation is completed during 1996. This phase of the entomological collections is being overseen by R. D. Worthington. There also is a specialized collection of ants maintained by William P. MacKay.
