UT: KANE CO.

General Description.—Davis et al. 1984: In Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, N of Colorado River. A large dry shelter in Navajo Sandstone, facing west and above a relatively steep slope. Shelter ca. 173 ft deep, 103 ft wide, up to 30 ft high; mouth large. Estimated to contain 370 m3 of organic materials.

Comments.—Pictures of shelter and feces, along with maps of shelter given by Davis et al. 1984. Also measurements of boluses, vegetational makeup, etc. Rundown of current vegetation, geology, etc.

Age.14C ages from Davis et al. (1984): 11,670 ± 300 (A-3212); 12,900 ± 160 (A-3213); 12,620 ± 220 (A-3298); 12,400 ± 250 (A-3297); 11,850 ± 160 (A-3296); 13505 ± 580 (GX-9371). First three and fifth on presumed mammoth dung; other two from mixed, loose samples. Identifications on basis of dung and hair. Average of 13 samples: 12,940 ± 40 BP (Martin in press).
