General Description.—Hager 1972: A circular depression in the Casper Sandstone, approx. 65 ft diameter and 10 ft deep with an overhang of 4 to 25 ft. Sediment was loose sand 4 to 6 ft deep with small, tabular blocks of sandstone. Bone distributed throughout to depth of 48". Sand is loose and rodent burrows were found. Some archaeological material, also. Currently in Transition life zone which here is characterized by sage-covered, treeless plains. "Sand Creek Pass, 8 miles to the southwest, is in the Canadian Life Zone" (Hager 1972:63). The mean ann. temp. is 38°F, and ave. ann. precip. is 17 inches.

Comments.—Wisconsin and Recent material believed by Hager (1972) to be mixed. Hager (1972) interprets climate 13,000 to 11,000 years ago at the site as reasonably at least 6-8°F cooler than now, with more moisture, and with a life zone depression of as much as 2,000 ft.

Age.—Late Wisconsin-Recent; bone collagen from the 48-inch level dated 11,980± 180 14C; from the 2-ft level, 3,890 ± 105 BP (Hager 1972).
